2017 — 2025

The milestones that shaped today’s organisation

Milestone 01

A mission to Togo

At the 6th West African Summit, a mission to Togo was approved to examine the country’s repeated absence from major gatherings and encourage the creation of a Supreme Subordinate Commandery.

Milestone 02

Mission to Togo

The mission was led by Major General Samuel Kofi ASUBONTENG.

Milestone 03

Principle of restructuring

The Grand Convention endorsed the principle of creating two Grand Commanderies and established a restructuring committee.

Milestone 04

First proposal

An initial restructuring proposal was submitted to the Supreme Council.

Milestone 05

Moratorium

Brigadier General Aristide AGBODJAN requested a two-year moratorium to develop the proposal further.

Milestone 06

A new proposal

Under the presidency of Brigadier General Dr Victor VOVOR, a new proposal based on the reorganisation of the deaneries of the Archdiocese of Lomé provided for Lomé East and Lomé West.

Milestone 07

Notice of no objection

The Bishops’ Conference issued a notice of no objection during its 129th session in Lomé.

Milestone 08

Official submission

The project was officially submitted to the Supreme Council.

Milestone 09

Mission and approval

A mission was led by Lieutenant General Joseph BINEY. Archbishop Nicodème Yves Anani BARRIGAH-BENISSAN approved the project in a letter dated 24 June 2023.

Supreme Council decision

The Supreme Council approved the creation of the Lomé East and Lomé West Grand Commanderies and the Supreme Subordinate Commandery of Togo.

Installations

The installations provided for by the new organisation took place.

Milestone 12

Presentation of the charters

The charters were officially presented under the chairmanship of Lt Gen Patrick IGWILO, representing Supreme President General Thomas DeLuca.

Institutional outcome

A clearly established national organisation

The decision of 14 October 2023 led to a national structure and two Grand Commanderies, installed in January 2025.
